Chijioke Uwandu

Chijioke “CJ” Uwandu is an associate in SBSB Eastham’s Houston office serving as a member of the firm’s Defense Base Act practice group. A two-year stint as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County, Illinois predated his April 2025 hire; in this role, he prosecuted a large number of misdemeanor and felony cases, handled several bench and jury criminal trials, reviewed felony charges involving a wide variety of infractions and worked with county detectives and other law enforcement personnel in reviewing arrest and search warrants for approval.

A native of Nigeria, CJ earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka in 2007. Six years later, he earned a Master of Laws degree in Business, Corporate and Maritime Law from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands before moving to the United States and going on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University in 2021.

CJ is admitted to the Illinois State Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. A self-proclaimed “global citizen,” he is an avid traveler with a strong desire to explore Houston.
