Jaila Carter remembers that, from a very young age, her family was heavily involved in being active members of their community through community service. As she was growing up, her father worked as an attorney. It was around this time that she developed the desire to become a voice for the voiceless and to do all she could to help those who needed it most.
Jaila is a humanitarian by nature. Her commitment to efficiency translates to creating solutions in an effort to address society’s problems. Jaila attended Howard University where she received an undergraduate degree in Psychology. Upon graduation she made the decision to commit a year to service by becoming an Americorps member. During her year of service, she served as a College Access Coach for low-income students in Atlanta Public Schools. Working with these students reaffirmed her passion for the law by continuing to ignite her desire to become an attorney and her drive for wanting to help others.
In the years since her time with Americorps, Jaila has done just that. While attending law school Jaila remained active within her law school community she served as President of South Texas’s Black Law Students Association, a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board, a member of the National Black Law Student Association Southwest Region Executive Board, and a member of the Student Appeals and Discipline Committee.
In the short time since graduating from South Texas College of Law, she has developed a reputation as someone who operates with a high level of integrity, who will see things through, and who is dedicated to getting the best results for those she represents.
When not in the office, Jaila enjoys traveling, attending concerts, spending time with her friends and family, and exploring new restaurants.
