Monika Trujillo found the perfect legal practice area for herself in state workers’ compensation, Longshore and Defense Base Act cases. With a degree in psychology and biology, Monika understands litigants’ issues and the nuances of their claims from an angle most attorneys do not. Her understanding of human psychology and physiology, including the effects of traumatic injuries both physical and psychological, allows her to create successful strategies to counter or recontextualize medical evidence.
Her passion for the field of health and science led her early on to a career focused on traumatic and industrial injuries. Prior to joining SBSB, Monika worked for five years litigating Illinois workers’ compensation cases, advocating for the defense of both employers and insurance companies throughout the state of Illinois. She has successfully litigated numerous cases, but also enjoys picking apart each case, so that her opponents have no choice but to settle for less.
Monika’s unique approach to each case focuses on the client’s interests, with the most cost efficient and effective options presented. Whether proceeding with settlement or trial, Monika helps the client obtain a thorough understanding of the injury, treatment, investigation needed and evidence available as well as all legal options and strategies. Monika strives to closely understand each client, their business dynamic and how the decision to proceed with settlement or trial will impact them.
Monika was born in Poland and spent her early childhood there, prior to immigrating to the United States. She is fluent in Polish. When she is not working, she enjoys traveling with her husband to visit family in Europe and Mexico. She also enjoys skiing, camping, rock climbing and any activities that allow her to be in the great outdoors.
